Lifesaving Society Programs
Sandy Cove Bible Camp is an Affiliate Member of the Lifesaving Society.
We provide their Swim for Life swimming lessons during regular camp weeks, for overnight campers. We also provide their Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross courses.
Open for overnight campers during Junior, Jr. Middle, Middle, and Teen weeks, are optional swimming lessons taught in beautiful Davidson Lake by a certified instructor. Swimming lessons are not open for Pee Wee and Day Campers, as they have a fun-packed schedule that leaves no room for anything more.
LENGTH OF LESSONS:
8-9 lessons, 30 minutes each. (Lessons will proceed rain or shine, but not in the case of thunder and lightning, or rough water.)
CLASS SIZE:
Grouped with up to 5 similarly skilled swimmers, the instructor can adapt to each child’s swimming ability.
WHAT TO BRING:
- Polyester shirt (if the swimmer gets cold easily)
- Sunscreen
- Towel (if possible, campers should bring at least 2)
- Bathing suit (if possible, campers should bring more than 1)
- Goggles that DO NOT cover the nose
SWIMMING LEVEL:
If your child has done swimming lessons before, please bring a copy of their most recent report card for our instructor to see. All campers in the Swim for Life program will have a swam assesment on Sunday, the first day of camp. If you have more questions, you can contact the Program Manager at
REGISTRATION:
Swimming lesson registration is an add-on in the general registration form for the week.* Please select the add-on upon registering.
COST:
An additional $50 to the camp fee.
*If already full, campers will be added to a waitlist and contacted by our Program Manager.
The Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross courses will take place rain or shine. With a mixture of classroom and water time, the schedule can be adapted to accommodate weather conditions when necessary. Campers will be in class after chapel in the morning and after lunch. After supper and evening chapel, candidates will participate in an evening camp activity and enjoy socializing with each other and their cabin leaders.
With a class size of no more than 12, each campers will get adequate instruction by a certified Lifesaving Instructor. Any questions can be directed to our Program Manager, Amy Kaufman (
WHAT TO BRING:

- Towels (campers will be in and out of the water throughout the day)
- Bathing suits* (campers will be in and out of the water throughout the day)
- Goggles that DO NOT cover the nose
- Polarized sunglasses
- Fox-40 Whistle
- Pen and notebook
- Canadian Lifesaving Manual (provided in Lifesaving Society’s Bronze Medallion)
*Needs to be appropriate for swimming laps and practicing lifesaving techniques on each other. Short style for male campers and one-piece for female campers.
